Iconostasis: Man and Woman
For Orthodox worship, even in the most makeshift of temporary worship spaces, every effort will be made to provide an image of Christ holding a book, which is always on the right, and an image of the Holy Mother of God holding the infant Christ, which is always on the left. These are permanently installed in a wall of holy images that separates the altar area from the nave, called the iconostasis. Are we scandalized by the juxtaposition of Christ and His mother on what appears to be an equal plane?
