As some of you might have seen, OpenAI recently announced that their AI models were using words like “goblin” and “gremlin” in ways that didn’t seem appropriate –so much so that they had to code restrictions to stop it.

For April 2026’s patron video, I use this strange situation as a way to help you understand how meaning functions, how symbolism works, and how these patterns emerge even in something like artificial intelligence.
